In January of 1956 Herb Walne began his career in the automotive repair business with the opening of a Humble Oil (Exxon today) service station at Northwest Highway and Easton Road in Northeast Dallas. His business grew to include a mechanical repair shop, automatic car wash and a body shop. In 1969 Exxon bought Herb out of the service station and garage business and he moved his body shop to the current location of Herb’s #1. As Dallas and the surrounding areas continued growing north, Herb’s son, Alan, opened the company’s fourth shop in Plano in 1995 located on Coit Road. As the population of Plano continued to expand, so did Herb’s. Within two years, Plano doubled in size with a new addition to effectively meet growing customer needs.
